Meet Your Monger

Raised in the Pacific Northwest, trained in New York, based in southwest England, winner of The Cheesemonger Invitational.  I’m an American cheesemonger, living, working, and spreading the good word of curd nerdery throughout the United Kingdom.  My love of cheese began early in childhood (Monterey Jack, anyone?), but the obsession that led to a career started with a slice of Morbier while employed as a clerk at A.G. Ferrari in San Francisco.  Later, while earning my Master's Degree in the United Kingdom, I visited nearly every cheese shop I could manage, fostering my fervent love for traditional and modern British cheeses.  After winning The Cheesemonger Invitational in Summer 2015, my career has taken me around the United States and Europe in the name of cheese.

 

I began working for The Fine Cheese Co. after moving to the United Kingdom in early 2018.  After serving as the Team Leader at their London shop, I moved to The Fine Cheese Co.’s original location in the picturesque town of Bath, and live in nearby Bristol with my wife, Stav.  

 

My previous work has included positions in New York with Bedford Cheese Shop and Dean & Deluca, Head Cheesemonger and Cheese Buyer at Mekelburg’s, and Head Cheesemonger at Foster Sundry, and employment as the USA External Educator for Le Gruyère AOP which led to induction as a Compagnon in the Confrérie du Gruyère.  I was also a primary contributor for the former website Cheeserank.com, and maintain a popular cheese-focused Instagram account as @thecheesemason , home for all your #cheeseporn cravings.
